History
Around 3000 BC ,The Lelegians and Carians moved from Central Anatoila and they formated the first settlement in Kusadasi.They settled on the skirts of ''Pilav Mountain''.Their famous cities were Melia and Ania.Fertile lands around allowed the inhabitants to grow essential products.Around 10 th Century BC ''12'' Ionian cities Samos,Khios,Ephesus,Teos,Klazonemi,Lebedos,Phokaia,Smyrna,Colophon,Miletos,Priene,Erythrai) became most developed of that age.
The city was invaded by Persians in 546 BC.Roman Empire dominated the city around 200 BC.After Decade of the Roman Empire,it became a Byzantine state.The Earthquakes and the climate,changed the route of Caystros river and ,Ephesus lost its priority and prosperity.Byzantines started to search a new trading center and the area around Neopolis was found convenient port .The name of this new port was ''Scala Nova'' and created the early foundation of today's Kusadasi.
Turkish domination starts with the Seljukian Kilic Arslan the 2nd invasion.Ottoman Empire dominated the area after the invasion of Sultan Mehmet Celebi in 1413.DUring the reign of Ottoman empire, the spectacular view of the town enriched with many glorious structures such as mosques,city walls,fortress as well as the citadel in Pigeon Island.Kusadasi gets its name from that island and means''bird island''.
In 1919 Greeks invaded the city and had to withdraw in 1922 after a long struggle.Izmir was the capital of Kusadasi untill 1954 and then it was changed to Aydin.Today Kusadasi is one of the Turkey's most sophisticated resort with its sandy beaches,lively nightlife,and historical ruins.
